Sentence Architecture

Inversion, Ellipsis, Parallelism, & Cleft Sentences

Jika kamu bosan menulis kalimat yang strukturnya selalu "Subjek + Verb + Objek" berulang-ulang, ini saatnya naik level! Empat teknik arsitektur kalimat ini akan memanipulasi struktur dasar untuk memberikan variasi, efisiensi, dan penekanan (emphasis) pada tulisanmu.

📐 The Architect's Blueprint

🔄 Inversion
Dibalik posisinya
✂️ Ellipsis
Dihapus yang dobel
⚖️ Parallelism
Disamakan bentuknya
🔦 Cleft
Dibelah untuk disorot

🔘 Inversion (Pembalikan)

Meletakkan Kata Kerja Bantu (Auxiliary Verb) SEBELUM Subjek, persis seperti kalimat tanya, untuk memberikan penekanan dramatis. Sering digunakan setelah kata negatif (Never, Rarely, Seldom).
Normal: I have never seen such a thing.
Inversion: Never have I seen such a thing.

🔘 Ellipsis (Pelesapan)

Menghapus kata-kata yang sudah jelas konteksnya agar kalimat tidak bertele-tele (efisiensi).
Normal: She likes tea, and he likes coffee.
Ellipsis: She likes tea, and he [likes] coffee.
E.g. I want to go, but I can't [go].

🔘 Parallel Structure (Sejajar)

Menjaga keseimbangan tata bahasa saat membuat daftar (list). Jika kata pertama berakhiran -ing, sisanya harus -ing!
I like swimming, reading, and to write.
I like swimming, reading, and writing.

🔘 Cleft Sentences (Kalimat Belah)

Membelah satu kalimat menjadi dua bagian menggunakan "It is / It was ... that / who" untuk menyorot subjek atau objek tertentu layaknya lampu sorot.
Normal: Budi broke the window.
Cleft: It was Budi who broke the window.

⚠️ The Ultimate Trap: "Not Only ... But Also"

Penggunaan frasa ini adalah kombinasi mematikan antara Inversion dan Parallelism di ujian TOEFL!

1. Jika Not only diletakkan di awal kalimat, harus di-Inversi (dibalik posisinya).
2. Kata setelah Not only dan But also harus Paralel (sejajar bentuknya).

Not only he is smart, but also he writes well.
Not only is he smart (Inversion), but he also writes well.
Teknik Kalimat Biasa (Standard) Kalimat Mahir (Advanced)
Inversion He rarely goes to the gym. Rarely does he go to the gym.
Ellipsis Some people went to work, and some people stayed home. Some people went to work, and some stayed home.
Parallelism The work is difficult, taking a lot of time, and exhaustion. The work is difficult, time-consuming, and exhausting. (Sama-sama Adjective)
Cleft I need a cup of coffee right now. What I need right now is a cup of coffee. (Wh-Cleft)
Style Pro Tip: Sama seperti bumbu masakan, jangan gunakan keempat teknik ini di SETIAP kalimat dalam esaimu! Tulisanmu akan terdengar kaku dan berlebihan. Gunakan sesekali saja di momen ketika kamu benar-benar ingin menarik perhatian pembaca.
