Dalam ujian TOEFL, ungkapan negatif sering kali digunakan untuk menyatakan hal sebaliknya. Tugas Anda adalah memahami esensi makna kalimat pembicara kedua dengan dua hukum utama berikut:

1. Double Negatives (Negatif Ganda)

Ketika dua elemen negatif bertemu dalam satu kalimat, maknanya saling menghilangkan dan berubah menjadi Positif.

Pola Double Negative	Contoh Kalimat Dialog	Makna Sebenarnya (Kunci Jawaban)
Negatif + Prefiks Negatif	It is not uncommon...	Hal itu sangat biasa/lumrah (*Common/Usual*).
Dua Kata Kerja Negatif	I can't not upload it...	Saya harus mengunggahnya (*I must upload it*).

2. Almost Negatives (Hampir Negatif)

Kata-kata ini memiliki arti "hampir tidak ada" atau "hampir tidak pernah". Kunci jawaban biasanya berupa kata "hardly" atau penegasan tingkat kelangkaan.

Pembahasan: Pembicara kedua (wanita) menggunakan pola *Double Negative*: not unprotected. Kata *not* (negatif) bertemu dengan awalan *un-* pada kata *unprotected* (tidak terlindungi). Negatif bertemu negatif menghasilkan makna positif: **terlindungi / aman**. Oleh karena itu, opsi yang tepat adalah **The network system was safely guarded** (B).
