TOEFL Listening: Part A (Who and What in Passive)

Who and What in Passive

Skill 6: Who and What in Passives (Menganalisis Subjek Tindakan Ganda)

💡 Strategi Utama: Menghindari Jebakan Posisi Pelaku

📋 Cara Membaca Pola Distribusi Logika:

Jika dialog berbunyi: "A was helped by B" (A ditolong oleh B).
➔ Arti aslinya adalah B melakukan tindakan menolong, sedangkan A yang menerima bantuan.
⚠️ Jangan pilih jawaban yang membalik logika menjadi: "A helped B" (Salah Total).

🔊 Dengarkan Percakapan:
Man (Baris 1)Did the new subscriber contact the network administrator?
Woman (Baris 2)The user was finally called by the manager.
NarratorWhat does the woman mean?

Pilihan Jawaban pada Lembar Ujian:

(A) The subscriber phoned the network system manager.
(B) The user cleared the database server history records.
(C) The manager made a phone call to the subscriber.
(D) The administrator successfully verified the account.

Kunci Jawaban: C
Pembahasan: Pembicara kedua (wanita) menggunakan kalimat pasif: "The user was finally called by the manager" (Pengguna/pelanggan akhirnya ditelepon oleh manajer).
➔ Pelaku tindakan aktifnya adalah the manager, sedangkan penerima telepon adalah the user (subscriber).
Oleh karena itu, konversi aktif yang benar adalah opsi C: The manager made a phone call to the subscriber. Pilihan A salah karena membalik posisi pelaku seolah-olah pelanggan yang menelepon manajer.
