💡 Konsep Dasar: Dua Fungsi Past Participle

Sebuah Past Participle adalah bentuk kata kerja ketiga (Verb 3), baik berakhiran regular (-ed) maupun irregular (seperti written, broken, stolen, discovered). Di dalam soal TOEFL Structure, Anda harus sangat jeli membedakan dua fungsi utamanya berikut:

Fungsi Kata	Karakteristik Utama Kalimat	Contoh Analisis Struktur
Sebagai VERB	Didahului oleh bentuk **be** (pasif) atau **have/has/had** (aktif sempurna).	The novel was written by a famous author.
Sebagai ADJECTIVE	Berdiri sendiri tanpa auxiliary. Berfungsi menerangkan benda bermakna "di-/ter-".	The novel written by a famous author is on the table.

TIPS ANTISIPASI JEBAKAN: Jika sebuah kalimat sudah memiliki kata kerja utama yang lengkap di belakang (seperti kata is pada contoh adjective di atas), maka kata kerja *V3* yang berada di depan murni berfungsi sebagai **Adjective**. Menambahkan auxiliary tambahan di posisi tersebut hanya akan merusak kalimat (*double verb*).

Pembahasan: Lakukan skrining kalimat terlebih dahulu. Kalimat di atas sudah memiliki kata kerja utama (*main verb*), yaitu generate dengan subjek jamak The solar panels.
• Opsi (A) salah karena akan memicu terjadinya predikat ganda (*double verb*).
• Opsi (C) salah karena *present participle (-ing)* bermakna aktif (*yang menginstal*), tidak logis untuk benda mati panel surya.
• Opsi (B) adalah jawaban benar karena kata *installed* (V3) murni bertindak sebagai kata sifat pasif (*panel surya yang diinstal*).
