💡 Konsep Dasar: Apa itu Appositive?

An Appositive adalah kata benda (*noun*) atau frasa kata benda (*noun phrase*) yang mendampingi kata benda lain untuk memberikan informasi tambahan atau penjelas. Ciri khas utama dari sebuah *appositive* adalah perannya yang **bisa dihilangkan tanpa merusak struktur dasar kalimat**.

ATURAN EMAS TOEFL: Sebuah appositive umumnya diapit oleh tanda koma. Bagian yang berada di dalam koma penjelas tersebut **TIDAK BISA** bertindak sebagai Subject utama dari kata kerja kalimat tersebut.

Ada dua pola susunan *Appositive* yang wajib dihafalkan untuk tes TOEFL:

Pembahasan: Di dalam kalimat setelah tanda koma, kita sudah memiliki pondasi utuh yaitu Subject (George) dan Verb (is attending). Artinya, bagian kosong sebelum tanda koma adalah tempat bagi **Appositive (Pola 2)**.
• Opsi (A) salah karena hanya berupa keterangan waktu (*adverb*).
• Opsi (C) salah karena membentuk klausa keterangan penjelas yang menggantung.
• Opsi (D) salah karena mengandung struktur subjek-kata kerja baru yang akan menyebabkan penumpukan (*double subject/verb*).
• Opsi (B) adalah jawaban benar karena berbentuk *noun phrase* murni yang bertindak sebagai *appositive*.
